Do you know what happens when someone dies?
Spoiler Alert — They die.
Except, of course, when they don’t.
This problem plagues fiction and tv, particularly the fantasy and comic book genre’s. People “die” only to come back to life left and right with the help of magical spells, or in a time continuum reversal, or as clones, or they had a secret twin (and on and on and on).
When this happens in a story it cheapens the reality of death as a terrible part of life, gutting a story of significant meaning and gravitas. I’m looking at you Avengers: Infinity War.
Let the dead characters stay dead, and we’ll love you for it in the end. Death is the price of living, and we all know, one day, we have to pay up. It’s okay to remind us.
We won’t die.
